I am looking for help with a stumble on acceleration with a 64 230. If I connect a vacuum gage in the vacuum advance line I can see a high vacuum reading as I slightly open the throttle. This vacuum is enough to provide full vacuum advance and I think the engine is stumbling because there is too much advance. If open the throttle more quickly (accelerate more quickly), the throttle plate passes the vacuum advance hole quickly and I don't have the big ignition advance. So, is my throtle misadjusted, or do I have the wrong vacuum advance diaphragm and it is opening to readily. Suggestions?
Bob, I dont know anything about carberators, but I saw that you have a 230 in your 64. I have a 64 also but can't figure out what size the engine is. The plate behind the distributor begins with an "F". Any ideas? thanks, Rick
I had the same problem with my 70 for a while, and it was fixed by moving the distributor vaccum line to a different port on the carb. If you have a quadrajet, like I do, it is on the front, very bottom, seems like it's on the base plate. This port is better because of the "signal" it gets is past the throttle blades and is less apt to jump suddenly at partial throttle. If that doesn't work, I also rebuilt my carb ($13 kit), and played with all the other crap that can go wrong.
