engine serial numbers

    It's a straight six inside a '63 half-ton body.
    Here's the numbers stamped on the plate above the distributor:
    F 924CPJ
    and then
    12W156887
    Can anyone tell me when the engine was made, and, perhaps more importantly, why isn't it easier to find out?

    Ive been lookin on Roberts 54 pickup page and under tech tip's advanced design restoration how to's part of the page it has a complete listing of GM engine casting numbers and nowhere does it mention the type of number that you have described. sorry this doesnt help.~Ryan

    It's a 1969 250 155 horse power 6 that came with a manual trans behind it.
