    I have a 64 Stepside that I have been working on for about a year.
    I keep running into a wall when it comes to figuring out what size engine I have.

    The plate behind the distributor begins with an "F". I was told
    if it was a 230 it would begin with an "N", if it was a 235 it would
    begin with a "J", if it was a 250 it would begin with an "S" or "T".

    I understand that this is probably not the original engine but I would really like to know what size engine I have.

    Thanks for any help,

    Rick

    If you give me the full number I think I can tell you what it is.

    Rick,

    I sent you a couple of sites to look at.

    But, The full casting numbers would help.

    Rick:

    I use a book called "catalog of chevy truck ID numbers 1946-1972". I could not find your "TK" letters which are the ones that tell you about your particular engine. The other parts of your number tell us the following:

    F = built in the Flint plant
    05 = built in may
    28 = built on the 28th of the month (may)
    T = Truck
    TK = ??? (these letters tell cylinder number, CID, horsepower comp ratio, carb, trans.)

    I would guess that your engine is a later year than 1972 since it's not in my book.

    I know this doesn't help you but perhaps the book I have also is available for later years.

    Also, tech1 here at chevy duty is always a good source of info.

    Good luck.

    Stephen
