New to this age of truck. My brother recently picked up a 63 with a 292. wants to trade for a 75 GM I have. I am getting 17 miles per gallon with the 350 in the 75 . Could I expect the same with this 292?? I easiest would be to drive it for a while but he insn't interested in running it and I am hrs away. Ideas?

    Hi-

I think you need to supply a little more info before you'll get a realistic estimate. Aside from the style of driving and it's typical use (in-town, interstate, rural, etc) your mileage will depend heavily upon the truck's driveline: is it three speed? overdrive? automatic? four speed? half, three quarter, one ton? Shortbed, longbed, panel? 2WD, 4WD? Tire and wheel size? And of course: gear ratio, gear ratio, gear ratio? For example, if you're talking one ton, your rear-end ratio could be as high as 5:14:1, as opposed to a standard half-ton ratio of three seventy-three to one. Will make a huge difference in that mpg.

    Good luck.;-)
