Hello Everyone! Just wanted to send a quick hello, and to say I am so happy I found this site! My father gave me a 65 Chevy truck that he used only for hunting season. It has a lot of wear and tear on the body because of the snow, sliding into trees, rocks, and everything else on a mountain. I look forward to learning from all of you, all I ask is that you are patient with me. I am in the learning stages of the restoration project. I will have tons of questions, and I am not a mechanic, but I can learn as I go. I can give you a brief description (at least what I know so far about my "new" toy.) 1965 Chevy Long Bed with a 350 engine with less than 30,000 miles, 4 speed manual transmission, heavy duty suspension in the rear, (coil and leaf springs for an overhead camper and towing power.), 4 bbl Holley carb. a wiring set up that would scare the best of them. And oh yeah, it is still the original yellow color, and has been parked for at least 15 years. It took a lot of work, but I got it running. My first problem is that the housing and bracket to the clutch rod twisted off of the frame. Any ideas as to how I can fix it? Thanks! Lil
Hello Lil, Welcome to the forum. The problem with the clutch ? Is it the Z-bar? The Z-bar runs from the engine on the lower left side to a pivot point on the upper frame rail. If not, try for a better description of the clutch problem. Dennis
Hi Dennis, Thanks for the welcome. Yes it is the Z-bar. It twisted off the frame rail. Any ideas? Thanks! Lil
The part that is rivited to the top of the frame rail is not reproduced. Unless you fabricate a piece yourself, you would need to find one in a wrecking yard and grind the rivit heads off the brackets. Talk to the wrecking yard operator because it would take a pretty long extension cord, or a portable power source to get that bracket off the frame rail. You may as well grab everything that you can like the z-bar and clutch linkage rods. Good Luck Pard. Dennis
Oh the guilt! I just cut that piece off my frame last week! Its probably still in the trash, but I couldn't find it in the dark with my flashlight. If you really want it, let me know and I'll find it in the daylight. I didn't destroy it grinding off the rivets but there are some marks on it and it would have to be bolted back on. Just let me know and its yours. You can email me at {trustyrusty65@yahoo.com} or reply here Russ
Oh no! I thought it would be a lot easier than that! But that is why I am here..to learn. Thanks for the help! I am sure I will have millions of questions. Lil
Russ, If you still have it, yease pleeease. I will email you, my email address is ILuvEagles2001@aol.com. Thanks! Lil
