Hi guys, I'm new to the site and to classic trucks. I just bought a 1966 Chevy Short Bed C10 as a project to me and my boys (16 & 11). Its going to need some work and lots of $$$$. I need help decoding the engine number. From the research I have done based off of my Vin number C144 6Z171490, I know my engine is suppose to be a V8 and my truck is from Fremont Ca and was 71,490 off of the line. I need help to determine if the engine is original, the number off of my engine block is V0605DJ. Can anyone tell me anything about these numbers? I appreciate any and all of your help.
Welcome to the forums. As you know, the only available V8 available in your '66 Chevy C10 swb fleetside trucks, was either a 283 or a 327. The '66 283 prefixes are: WA, WE, WF, WH & WC. The '66 327 prefixes are: YS, YR, YH, YC & YD. I don't see any VO prefixes for the '66 Chevy truck V8 engines.
V0605DJ = Flint plant, June, 6th day, 283-195 HP, air injection...go to the back driver`s side of the block below the head there will be a julian date code..for the year, but so far it looks good.
Tony I believe on Nastie`s Z site it shows that in that section marked A those engines were used for all chevy vehicles, not specified.
engine id go to 73-87.com and click chevy id's on left side of page.then click on engine block codes and find your engine code.
