First, this is for bodies that are completely stripped to just the metal shell. Laquer thinner and it only as gasoline flares badly and both it and kerosene gets the metal hot enough to warp. Cook about a two square foot area at a time and the undercoating scrapes off as easy as whipped cream. Flames make for a dark picture but the follow up shows well. Last shot is after a brief hosing with the sandblaster. All four foot wells and area under the seats have been replaced; the kid is getting pretty good welding in panels. The big hole in the floor pan is for a 1955 Studebakers under seat heater.
I've removed more than my share of undercoating and my method is to heat it up with a heat gun, scrap with a putty knife and wash with an old rag using lacquer thinner. It's a little slower than your method being you can't heat as large an area.
Thanks, Evan~ Now you post this? I spent... ...way too much time whacking away at this stuff with a screw driver and a hammer. That actually worked pretty darn good, BTW. I kept time with some good rock 'n roll tune, and before you knew it, it was gone! My only question is, what is the best solvent to get rid of the residue from the tar left behind? TIA!
