I seem to have an excessive amount of play in my steering. I have a 66 c20 fleetside w/ power steering and the wheel moves from about 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock to catch from left to right. Any suggestions on how to tighten things up.

PS. Thanks to everyone who posts, you guys have helped me out of a few jams in my time restoring this truck.

there is a bolt on the top of the steering box.loosen the locknut and tighten the bolt.if then the steering is then too tight, loosen it some.when it feels right, tighten the lock nut.

If the adjustment doesn't take it out it might need to be rebuilt.

Be sure to check all the steering components for slop as well. The center link and tie-rod ends and the idler arm need to be in good shape.

Try replacing the pitman arm idler arm inner/outer tie rods on both sides and that should fix it. If it still drives sloppy change upper and lower ball joints. While it is apart it would be a good time to replace the springs also. Good Luck

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I was in the process of adjusting the steering box when I noticed that the pitman are bolt had come almost all the way loose. It had about two threads left before popping off(that would have sucked) So I got that tightened up and adjusted the steering box, everything is great now.

    Thanks again to everyone.
