Hello everyone, I have a 1966 chevy pickup fleetline with a 283 a new Edelbrock 500 performance manual choke carb. Needless to say the gas would heat up going through the manual fuel pump so I installed a ##### electrical fuel pump under the gas tank. Checked the gas tank filter and tank, no problem check the fuel line no problem installed a see thru fuel filter. All fuel lines are away from heat so I know there is no way there is a vapor lock, also checked the float bowl as well carb is good an also new. Going to check the amp going to the electrical fuel pump which is rated 6 psi and up today. Is there anything I am missing. Ok I forgot, I can drive with no problem then it will stall out but I can restart and drive right after that. I watch the fuel filter and I can see it get fuel then later it will empty out but not all the way and then fuel will come back in sperts. I also checked the spark plugs she is firing good and also it's a rebuilt motor as well. What else am I missing? If you know of anything else I can check please email me at cellout_jay@hotmail.com thanks Jason
RE: Gas tends to stop flowing quest That dosn't sound like a fuel delevery problem. It definatly isn't vapor lock. I would check the carb and make sure that its' set up properly. float level, jetting, idle mixture, etc etc.. Look for a vacuum leak too... Was the timing adjusted properly? Your post said that you mounted the electric pump " UNDER " the tank ? I would recommend that you move the pump to the frame rail where it, and the connected fuel lines, will be away from road hazards. That will not fix the stalling problem, but it will avoid the flame problem. DV
RE: Gas tends to stop flowing quest Can you hear your fuel pump when it is operating? Does the sound seem to change? It sounds like you may not be getting a steady voltage to the pump. Do you have it wired direct, or running off of a relay? A switched relay will help make sure your power supply is constant. I also assume that you have enough fuel in the gas tank to be enough above the pick-up in the tank, right?
RE: Gas tends to stop flowing quest sounds like its either sucking air, check the line at the tank and your conections at the pump, or your tank is not venting, check the cap. chief
