I am trying to find out why my suspension on my 65' L/B squeaks. I don't really notice it while I am on the road at speed because headers, exhaust, and road noise drowns it out. When I am rolling around at idle the springs or shocks or something squeaks loudly. I have sprayed the brackets and bushings for the springs with different types of lube but it still squeaks. You can grab the bed and rock it and it squeaks. Any ideas on how to squash the squeaks? Rip
Hi- I had the same problem with a '78 Ford half-ton from the day I bought it new. Finally wound up putting 30 WT oil on the spring leafs themselves, and it finally quieted down. Drawback was driving down dirt roads, the springs picked up a lot of dust. On the flip side, it was cheap rustproofing. Good luck. Roger;-)
CD sells aroll of stuff called Poly ride liner. You take your springs apart and cut pcs of the liner to put between the springs.
Have you lubed the front end recently ? Bushings, ball joints, tie-rod ends and idler arm. If you have a sway bar in front those can get squeaky over time as well. Most do not have a zerk fitting to squeeze grease into. You will need to disassemble the sway bar retainers on the frame rails and work some grease into where any rubber contacts metal, that's inside and out of the rubber sway bar bushing. I'm going on the assumption that you have a front end squeak. If not, try to find out where it's coming from and post again. Dennis
