On The 66 Fleetsides, When Converting Trannys To The Th350, What Have You Guys Done About Wiring Up The Reverse Lights, I Suppose A Switch On The Ol Hurst Floor Shifter Will Do The Job, But My Question Is Which Wires To Use. I Have A Wiring Diagram From Classic Parts But It Doesnt Show Anything For The Reverse Lights. I Have Two Green Wires Laying On The Floor Next To The Tranny Hump That Have Been Routed Under The Firewall Insulation. This Truck Used To Have A Sm420 Tranny In It. Thanks For Any And All Help.
The reverse light switch from the SM420 floor shifter is like the Missing Link ! VERY hard to find. When I swapped a 700 R4 from a SM420, I used a Lokar shifter and floor mount indicator. That allows the reverse lights to function. Check out Lokar for a TH350 shifter and indicator. DV
If you are using your colum shift it is your neutral safety switch. My powerglide switch worked just fine after I adjusted it. Set e-brake or chock wheels. Turn key to run but do not start. Put truck into reverse. Slide neutral safety switch left or right until lights come on and tighten bolts. If you need to run power for this all you need is a switched hot and run the other leg to the lights. Looking at the wiring diagram, look for the light green wires. These are coded for the back up lights. If I remember correctly there is one green wire that runs along the drivers side frame rail and the splits at the driver side back up light. For an after market floor shifter locate the two light green wires inside the cab. When you find these light green wires cut them from the harness and hook to the switch for your back up lights. If you locate a light green wire under the hood it probably is not for the back up lights.
Let me clear something up real quick. There is a dark green and a light green wire. The dark green is the power source and the light green is to the lights. If you take a male spade connector and add some wire run to the floor shifter you don't have to cut the harness off. The only problem with this is it can easily be kicked apart.
Cool, Thanks Fellas, That Clears Up What The Light Green And Dark Green Wires Are For. Ill Be Using A Hurst Floor Shifter So Ill Be Taking Both Of Your Advice, Ill Check Into A Switch From Lockar For On The Shifter And Use The Two Exsisting Wires For The Power To The Lights. Thanks Again Guys.
Drabo, not sure if your still on here but I could use your help converting my Powerglide to a 700r4 with a 283.. Patrick
