So I guess I said I would possibly find myself an AD truck to play with while my oldest plays with his GMC. Started looking and found two possibilities within three miles. How about a '53 5-window 1/2 ton, looks complete and clean, probably runs, for $500? I'll decide within a day or two...
Go for it! $500 if it is complete sounds like a heck of a deal! You could probably part it out and double your investment if all else fails! Just my 3 cents (adjusted for inflation!) Ken
False alarm. Price went up (too much) and visual inspection close up wasn't the same as 40 feet away. Looked like he was using the bed and interior as a dumpster. The body still looked pretty good with 4 nice fenders, and little visible cab rust in one corner, and straight bed. Two windows were open (parked in 1985 in car port) and surface rust on dash was pretty ugly. I'll keep looking...
$500 Ain't Much Lolly ! You can run it to The Town Dump on the park brake as soon as you get it running then begin the fun . As long as it's complete & the engine isn't stuck , you can hardly go wrong @ $500 with DeLuxe Nu-Vue cab & four good fenders .
You missed the part where I said the price increased. Try $5000 - says I misunderstood before. Been sitting since 1985. Smells like a cat inside. Throwout bearing was bad when parked. I'll stop occasionally and offer the $500 or perhaps a bit more, but if he's not tired of looking at it in his carport in 25 years, I don't think it will make much difference. I know the location of at least one more...
Yeek ! Another goof who saw a $10,000 truck at a car show and thinks he has a gold mine . C'est La Vie , there's plenty more out there .
Offer his other half the money and see what happens, from time to time. Cat is hard to get out of the truck once it starts eating into the metal.
