need a round heater core for my 54 truck.. Had a little bit of anti freeze in the floor board and pulled and sure enough its leaking and looks like the core is shot. Anyone tell me where to look for a round heater core?
Hi, look through ebay, here´s one:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1947-1955-1...ear:1953|Make:GMC&hash=item1e6dc94513&vxp=mtr I´m not sure, if they are available new, and if so, probably very expensive...
I had the same problem two years ago. New ones were very expensive. I did find one on ebay for cheap, but it leaked as well. I finally just made a copper lope that fit behind the heater cover. My heater dosn't work, but it still looks like I have one.
Heater Cores I always try Aluma-Seal before scrapping a heater core , it's good stuff all three American Car makers use it in their new cars & trucks . There's a place in upper New England that still makes the cores new , not cheap but much cheaper that any Dealer heater core so not expensive either .
I think I saw them in a catalog for The Filling Station as well. If I remember correctly, they were $400+. I have one I'm probably not going to use, but I don't know if it's good or not. Damon
regarding your post about the heater core. I really dont care if my heater works or not. You mentioned you put a copper lope behind the cover and that works. Can you provide more details on how you did that. Pics or something. If I can figure out a way to run the truck without an actual core, I would be fine with that. Or can anyone tell me how to run the truck with a heater core. Thanks
You might also consider going to the deluxe heater which is the fresh air type and was an option from the factory. They are not hard to find and use a rectangular core that is much cheaper and easier to find. It is much better at keeping the windshield clear in the defrost mode. I know I have several ( but where???), which are leftovers from replacing with the heat/cool units like the ones from Vintage Air. The cool part is almost a necessity if you're going to drive one much in Texas.
Heater Loop Yes ~ be aware that this is a By-Pass heater so you'll be needing to shut off the water flow in Summer else you'll wish you had . I see lots of room in there to make up a coil of loops of copper tubing , that might actually give some " Mouse fart " heat .
Here's another: > http://www.ebay.com/itm/47-54-55-1s...ear:1949|Make:GMC&hash=item3375ada9ed&vxp=mtr
I gave up trying to find one of those round cores and did Like Evan said and got a fresh air heater. The core was bad on that too, but easier and cheaper to replace. Up here in the Northeast, we worry more about having heat than cool though. Works so good I never did hook up the defroster tubes, although I have them. Andy
