    Hello all.
I recently bought a 1961 Chevy K10. It has a few minor problem areas that need attention but it's nothing that can't be fixed. One area of concern I do have is the area right above the windshield before what I call the gutter on the roof. It's rusted out and I can't find a replacement part for it. I have thought about getting a donor cab but I can't justify spending the money for a cab when all I really need is that one piece from it. Also does anyone know how far that piece goes back and is it the main body holding the glass on the top? A sheetmetal shop could probably form something up to work but I don't want it to look like the duct tape patch the previous owner put on. Thanks.

I think you are thinking correctly.

If the roof is rotted around the rain gutters, check the door pillars and the area where the kick panel meets the floor. I'll bet good money you have trouble in those areas too.

If you keep looking, you should be able to find a clean cab for $500 to $750 range. You will spend twice that much cleaning up the roof on your cab only to find more rot hidden inside the hindge pillARS AND kick panels.

Here it is 5 am and I have already been outside looking at the truck's cab. After reading your reply I tried to figure out if getting a cab that cost double what the truck did was worth it or not but I came to the conclusion that it is. I checked the mentioned parts and they appear to be decent. I'm not going to say good since my lighting was rather poor. I did do some checking around for a cab but I can't find a 61. If my thinking is right 60-62 shared the same cab. Is that right? I found a few 62's but they are in NY and MN. I would prefer to find one a bit closer to Kansas City. If you know of any good places please let me know.

If you want to retain the curved windshield' knee knocker cab, you can go to 63. If you don't care, then all the way to 66. You could also use a GMC cab.

FYI: If I were looking for a rust free cab, Minn and NY would not be on the top of the list ! Look at the desert states, Texas, Arz, NM, or Nev. If the rest of the cab you have is in good shape with the execption of the roof you may want to reconsider a new cab. Get an estimate from a body shop that you KNOW does this kind of restoration work.

Knowledge will help you make the decision that is right for your situation.
