i have a 1964 k-10 and i am thinking about restoring it. will drivetrain from a 1981 chevy k-10 bolt into my 64 or will i have to modify some things? or would it be possible to bolt my body to the 1981 chassis? or would it be better to keep the orginal drivetrain and have the axles rebuilt and transfercase gone through?
From what little I've seen, you may have to do some modifications to the frame of your choice to make the '64 fit. Personally, if it were me, I'd go for the original, if time was not a factor and it was in good shape. Of course, you can do many improvements, such as upgrade the suspension with more modern components, either for a softer ride for cruisin' or a tougher set-up for off-roading (gasp!) You could go for a tougher tranny & upgraded shafts or rebuild everything for a more traditional (and more valuable) finished product. If it were me, I'd keep it original! Bud
Hey 64, I'm with Bud on this one and would recommend keeping it as close to stock as possible. It will be worth more in the long run, but that will be your call. The SM420 tranny and the T-221 transfercase are pretty stout boxes, and with that low first gear it makes it nice going up and down the slopes! 64K10
