First...and I hope I do not make a mistake. Please, please, please do not bid/touch the trailer. I want to get a campanion for my 48. I have been looking for one and this seems just right(small). Did I say please? Ok, now to the good stuff....Auction here in New Mexico this weekend in Belen has a few interesting things. 1. 1930 Chevy 5 Window Coup No Title, No Engine Vin #: 83550...starting bid $2500...my boys say it will probably go for lots of mula. 2. 1946 GMC Pickup W/ 327, A/t Vin #: 20670...bid up to $160(had started at just $7.50...if cheap I may get into the mix, but not likely. 3. 1976 Corvette Stingray 350 A/T, New Tires, 2 New Spares Vin #: 1Z37L6S425801 Miles 105055...maybe of interest to one or two of you, but who in their right mind would want to try for such a young stud? 4. 1966 Chevy 10 Pickup W/ 283 Engine, 3 Spd, 6Cyl Vin #: C154GZ162258...love those 327 and 283, just can't be beat. 5. 1946 Chevy Frame W/ 6 Cyl Engine ...Should go real cheap, but up to $55 and had started at $5. I will be there...did I say please? I have gone to these country type auctions for years...thats how I got my original juke boxes. Anyway, ck them out on line, they have some pretty nice pictures(if interested you better register online if you not going to be there), considering auction pics. www.jandjauction.com www.jandjauction.com Hey and Good Luck...did I say please? Good Stuff ! I see the red C/10 pickup says both 283 and 6 cylinder , I see it's an automatic Powerglide , I also see a nice Honda CT90 and CT70 in there . Best of luck on the trailer ! . I'm searching for a tear drop my own self right now .
Well, got ready to go, but..... Put on a different heavy duty bumper with a two inch ball...kinda assuming that...had a hard time. My spare holder was in the way, kinda locked-in on itself...finally my boy tells me to just cut off some of the end handle...Da. It worked. It now seems that I could pull stumps with ease. My spare has always been a pain...I think it is the dumb chrome rim I have as the spare...it hits the slide bracket. Maybe, when I am bored I'll change it to an original. But...well, as it turns out will probably go down to Belen in a more "modern so-called truck"...it turns out I have to also try and pick up a couple of big bales on a flat trailer, if I can. And, I was so much looking forward to riding the 48 down there...fun, fun, fun...now its just a trip. Well, a trip to get a campanion for the 48! So, it should not be that bad! It will also be interesting to see those other sights. Anyway, laters, Rod
283-6 cyl...the rest of the story... Nate, Did you not know of the 6-cylinder that was a size 283 that was put out under a secret government program back during the "Roswell Incident"? There are really not too many people that know about it... but because of the threat of aliens from space and the cover-up that came about....they needed to divert public attention away from things...so... And now you know the rest of the story...Hey, do you think we have anybody yet? Ha, Ha, Ha Rod
? Well ? Didja go ?? . I'm thinking that " Chevrolet " chassis parked outside in the weeds , sure looks like a manly GMC Engine to me . It's a very good thing I can't go as I'd surely buy something I don't need . BTW : I am looking for an old Tear Drop Trailer to use , not a restored one , one I can afford to buy and clean up enough to actually go camping in..... Will travel , ca$h waiting....
Auction outcome...I have lots more work! Well, I got the trailer! It was one long day, but I am happy looking forward to lots of work and fun. It seems to have some(hopefully, not much) water damage...maybe a couple of sheets of plywood panel. I think everything else will be cleaning, working, and fixing...but not a big thing. I have been building a cabin, so I have the equipment. It has a hydraulic brake system-all rusted out and will need work. It says Atwood on it...that will be nice to have with the original working brakes on my truck. I can hardly wait to start work on it. I am sure glad it has that hump storage in the back...we usually try and take our ten-speed bikes with us when traveling...they will be up, locked, safe, and out of the way, if I can come up with a good bracket. 1. 1946 GMC went for $750. 2. 1931 Chevy Coup went for $4000. 3. 1976 Stingray went for $5200. 4. 1966 Chevy Pickup for $1800. *****Surprise...1958 Cushman Scooter(motor torn in parts) went for $750! *****Big Surprise...the frame and original motor from the 1946 Chevy had what appeared to be an original, metal piped rebuildable PCV! People there thought I was crazy and did not know why I was excited or even knew what I was talking about when I finally realized what I was looking at...I have one from 1955 on my 48, but that is just luck that I have it...I did not have it originally. Nate, will be on the look out, but have not seen an old original one lately. And, that as they say is all......the rest of the story. Rod
Auction Pix Go to the website and click on the Friday's auction , details . Some serious deals were had .
Trailer Pic I hope this works...at home I have slow "Slow Boat to China" Internet service. My brother sends me lots of stuff that crashes my computer by the time it even gets one tenth of the file...he is always yelling at to to get with the modern world. I tell him I drive a 48, fixing a 63 trailer, store stuff in humpback chests, would love to still be using my old brick phone...what can he expect! Anyway, at the library I can do faster stuff. I just attempted to put on a Pic of the 48 on my trip to VLV a couple of months ago...and now, a pic of the trailer. Let's see if this works! Rod
Looks Good ! A few years back I was given a trailer like this , the guys crazy white trash violent sister got involved and I nearly lost both my paycheck and job over the damn thing . I gave it to a kid who scrubbed it clean & repainted the outside checkerboard and re varnished the cabinets , made new curtains and proceeded to use the heck out of it . Take your kids camping in it ! .
A few years back I was given a trailer like this , the guys crazy white trash violent sister got involved and I nearly lost both my paycheck and job over the damn thing . That's funny as anything! Well, the first part...not nearly losing you job and paycheck. Let this be a warning to all ......"anything given to you (free) has all kinds of things(usually old rats nests, old bee hives, or cactus plants growing it)... or in some cases guys crazy white trash violent sisters...attached to it." Funny, the more I think about it. Grand children, now... Rod
No Worries That one went into the file marked : No Good Deed Goes Unpunished . The guy BEGGED me to help him out , I tried to walk away after his psychotic sister got involved ~ she's a real harpy like you see on those crazy day time T.V. shows but it's real life and she's far worse . She manged to steal his house in fact . White Trash ~ I dislike them very much .
Ron, Nice truck and trailer! I have been really busy doing work on both truck and trailer. I would love to hear more about your setup on what you have. Like what kind of trailer, year, do you have the 235 pulling it...etc. A few people had me rethinking this, until I found out lots more about pulling vintage trailers. I even have a photo(I don't know where it came from) that has like 4 or 5 in a row being pulled by different vehicles in the 50's. What completely got me excited and calm was another series of photos(but I could not get the story behind it) in 1955 that shows a family vacation in 1955 with a trailer about yours or my size that is being pulled by a vw Bug! A friend told me that that Bug has a 40 hp engine! He loves it! Anyway, my setup will be the Cardinal trailer...about 12'. The truck is pretty much original...235 engine...granny gear-floor...4.11...I should be on the highways at about 50 miles an hour soon. I have an extra frame with a heavy duty bumper and ball that I have fixed up and should now be able to switch out when needed in less than a half an hour. I still have to put in some wiring, which should not take that long. I am trying to find some original red brake lights lens(the light is in the trunk)...it has some dumb looking modern Jeep ones right now. I am sure glad that I am taking my time painting the truck...because that has now been modified or being re-evaluted, because now I can or should match the two. As I have always said "this truck will look good in any color." So, don't even ask what I am considering. I can hardly wait to get the pair on the road! Rod
Towing For safety's sake , you really do need Bendix brakes ~ towing with Huck (rhymes with "suck") brakes is an accident waiting to happen . Radial tires too , same reason . I'd never tow a trailer sans a sway bar , they're available affordably . I was recently offered a " Canned Ham " trailer like this one pictured , I want a smaller Tear Drop shaped one . In 1955 , the Mighty Volkswagen Beetle , has a 36 HP engine , 40 HP didn't arrive until 1961 . Glass lenses for your taillights are available from our host or any old truck partshaus .
