How much of a chore would it be to put a 350 with a 400 turbo into a 61 K-10? Is it even worth the effort?

what engine do you have in it now and what tranny? i don't think it would be to hard as i put my 454 in my 62 K20 dually but i used the 4spd.i think if it is what you want go for it. i don't think that it would be to hard cause my 62 came with a 283. you just have to have side mounts which you can get a kit to put in from speedway for like 50-60$ and get a tranny crossmember.

    It currently has a 235 with a 4spd. I wouldn't mind putting in a 350 and a newer 5 spd for the overdrive.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-16-04 AT 11:16 PM (CST)]well you could get a cross member out of a new 4x4 for the engine and then get a tranny cross member and you would have that you need to put it in. as long as you got the motor mounts too.then just have a drive line fixed up.

My rear end is low geared and with gas prices the way they are would putting in a older 4.3 V6 with a 5 spd from an S-10 be possible? It doesn't need to be a powerful beast just something reliable and fun to drive.

i think that would be pretty cool. i don't think that many people put the 4.3 and a 5 spd in these trucks very often. i have a buddy thinking about going the same accept he will keep the 4spd he's got but he isn't low geared. i would like to put a 5 or 6 speed be hind my big block. or even a 6.5 turbo diesel and a 5 speed, or heck i want to put a duramax and a 6 spd in it in a year or 2 but hey that will come in time. but i think tvhe 4.3 would be good cause you just need to have the right gears and it will work like a million bucks.

    HELLO,

EASY SWAP. FIND/USE THE V8 SIDE MOUNTS AND REMOVE THE CROSSMEMBER THAT YOUR BELLHOUSING MOUNTS TO. INSTALL THE CORRECT CROSSMEMBER FOR THE AUTO TRANS, POWERGLIDE, TH350 OR TH400 WILL BE FINE OUT OF ANY 60-72 CHEV PICKUP PREFERABLY 1/2 TON. THE ONLY ISSUE NOW IS THE TRANSFERCASE. NEED TO DECIDE ON DIVORCED OR MARRIED, AND THEN THE DRIVE LINES TO MATCH.
AS FAR AS THE 4.3 V6, IT WON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AS FAR AS IF IT WILL HANDLE THE HIGHER RPMS BETTER THAT THE SMALL BLOCK. THEY SHARE THE SAME STROKE COMBO JUST 2 LESS CYLINDERS.
FOR THE 5 SPEED USE THE TRANS/TRANSFERCASE COMBO OUT OF A EARLY TO MID NINETIES CHEV/GMC. USE THE CROSSMEMBER FROM A 73-87 1/2 TON, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REDRILL THE HOLES IN THE FRAME. ANYTIME YOU DO THIS TYPE OF MODIFICATION FROM STOCK YOU'LL HAVE FABRICATION TO DO.

    GOOD LUCK MAN!

    HOPE THIS HELPS

    BRANT.
