ran my truck for about 2 mins and oil began to overflow from the oil filter canister. drained it and ran it again and it did the same thing. Im thinking I have a blockage in the line. can someone please shed some light on what it might be? thanks

Make shure you have the rubber gasket between the lid and the body.

    Cannister Filter Leaks

The engine doesn't make sufficient oil pressure to blow out the gasket so it needs a new gasket or better , a fibre ring , not sure where to get those anymore though .

If it simply flat refuses to seal up , disconnect both hoses at the engine end and plug the openings with 1/4" NPT (IIRC) plugs and drive happy until you find a good used $5 oil cannister on Flea-Bay or an Auto Swap Meet , yes they're still out there and amazingly cheap as most think they don't actually filter the oil (they're dead wrong) plus no one likes to touch really oily ,filthy junk....

Oil filter cannister passage closed ?

There is a tiny passage hole in the cannister (not bigger then a needle size) that could be blocked or your hoses/brass coplings. I would advice you to drain out the oil and press some air through there.

When I took the top of the canister off, the oil was filled to the top of the canister and had to be drained out with a turkey baster. With that being said, does the indicate the seal/gaskets weren't on right or a blockage somewhere?

You have yet to say whether there was a gasket in the lid. That should be obvious, but it has to be known to go further with suggestions...

The gasket comes with the filter.

Go to NAPA & get a new canister filter & make sure the gasket is sunk flat into the tabs on the lid of the filter housing before installing the lid.

Here is the top of the canister and the gasket that looks to be off and not seated properly. Is that the cause?

That's yer problem & I would replace those old brittle oil lines while you are at it.

    Cannister parts missing ?

Normally the internal oil filter rests on a pressure spring/platform just a litle bit above the cannister bottem , if these parts are gone the filter does not press in top towards the lock and the rubber ring as the filter unit is just filling up the space and can not be properly installed ! I am not shore if the AC and FRAM cannisters are build up the in the same way ?

Just wonder if this could be the case ?
