I have a 64 c10 with a 283 from a mid 60's impala. I have a rochester 2 barrel with automatic choke. I used to drive truck around but has been parked for several years, trying to get running smooth. Gas tank has been replaced, fuel pump replaced, filters replaced, carb rebuilt by my brother. My problem is truck will run and sound good when idle screw is set to fast idle and choke is mostly closed. When truck is warmed up choke has to be mostly closed to keep running when idle screw is turned down to normal idle. When you press gas pedal and choke opens up truck will die. Probably a simple problem but not had much carb experience. To put it another way truck will not run when engine is hot and choke is fully open. thanks, jason

    Sounds Like :

Ac serious vacuum leak , prolly between the carby and the intake manifold .

Is the heat spacer perfect ? I bet it's cracked or warped.

No vaccuum leaks. one of the stems in the venturi was plugged. I love this new gas! Truck hadn't set that long but plugged up everything from sending unit to venturi, (sending unit, tank, lines fuel pump and all filters) Scratched our heads and rears till we found it thankful for extra parts laying around. Never throw anything away.
