Got a call from a very nice lady with an Indian accent (probably learned by a Nigerian) telling me that my computer was sending out compromising personal information to their computer and with my co-operation they could correct it before any damage was done. I asked her when this was happening and she said right then which is a real trick since I have dial up. It's impossible for both the phone and computer to be working at the same time and she was talking to me on the phone. As soon as she detected I was stringing her along she hung up. I don't know if any warnings have been posted on this but be aware of it.
PC & IPT phone scam. Evan When a pc runs over the phone network its posseble to hack the computer unless you have an updatet firewall and a good updated anti virus program. Never the less its still fully posseble to hack a pc through the bios setup (startup) with the right hacking program when the scammer knows your IP adres and finds some passwords or codenames on your pc. The IP adres is a kinda fingerprint and easy to locate. India is a hightech country on IT but with IT devellopment crime also increase. What you have experienced Evan is a typical attempt of fishing. Someone phones your number asking for information to get unlimited acsess to your pc documents , passwords or banking information. Its your money and personal information there after!!!!! My advice is Never give away any passwords or codes or personal/buisness information or banking information unless you are shore you are talking to the right person ! Do not use Java even if the pc is updated. Java plugins are very easy to break and to hack . Many people and banking institutions as well use Java programs but they still have a lot of weeknesses and can give you much trouble. Using Visa , American express card and Paypal is great in use but secure your self by changing acsessing passwords and codes often. All of them finance organisations have fully insuirence cover when money gets lost . But whe know that there systems work slow and it takes time before money losses are covered and the money is back on your banking account. Thank you for telling us Martinius.
Omg! I just got a note from my Realtor, She was mugged in England and lost het Passport/money Credit Cards. She asked if we could send her money to pay her hotel bill and get passports reissued. We could send money to Lagos, I guess they forgot my Dead Rich Uncle over there who left me millions, just had to send the money to an attorney to process the will and it would be all mine. I guess if you are in jail in Nigeria you have time to think these things up. Darn, I could use a rich old Uncle about now too!
World wide scammers Europol and Interpol are working closely together with your CIA and FBI. Norway and other europeen countrees have there own IT crime squad working together on different levels. IT crime is known as the most advanced crossing crime today and not easy to trace when there good. When you think a person from Africa is trying to pull a scam on you it could actually be your next door nabour kid hacking your computer. You never know whom they are if they are clever anough But its allways posseble to trace IP adresses and acsess codes if you know how to do that and have the right IT aquipment. Sometimes the police uses hackers to find stolen or hidden fortunes , people or covered up crime .
