HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT THIS STUFF ON OTHER SITES IT CALLED PEEL N STICK IT S A CHEAPER WAY TO GO.OVER THE COST OF DYNAMAT THEY SAY YOU CAN GET IT AT HOME DEPOT AND LOWES I HAVE NOT SEEN IT. THE GUYS THAT HAVE USE IT ALL SAY THAT IT HAS CUT DOWN ON NOISE BUT I AM LOOKING TO CUT DOWN ON HEAT MORE SO THAN NOISE ANY CHEAPER IDEAS OTHER THAN DYNAMAT OR LIZARD SKIN WHITCH IS ABOUT $500.00 PLUS $80.00 FOR SPRAY GUN. THANKS ROBERT
Robert, I used the Peal N Stick on my 54... It help with the noise and the floorboard heat as well... I installed the old style rubber floor mat on top... The rolls are about $ 20 each and sold at Lowels... Our Home Depot does not stock it ... I am not sure how many rolls I used... I did the inside of the cab and the doors too... I am running a 1960 235 with an original set up Hydra-Matic transmission... The Hydra-Matic puts out a lot more heat than the standard transmissions... Michael
Hushmat is the way to go. A bulk kit will do most of our trucks' interior. It has heat barrier and sound deadning. Any product that stops panel vibration will cut down on noise, some better than others.
Robert, The stuff they have at Lowes is "Peel & Seal" http://www.lowes.com/pd_154017-81326-PS625_ I've used it and it is easy to install, works good and is easy on the wallet.
Look for the jute padding with the silver backing, I usually find at the swap meets for $25. Put on roof and floor/ firewall to help with the heat also.
Peel n seal Plan on peel n seal then jute pad on top already have dbl sided pad on roof of truck just want to cool the hot box down peel n seal on back wall of cab to.
Cab Heat Robert ; I hope you take some before , during and after pix as you seem to work well and this is an important thing to do . Before you add the sheeting it is critical to seal up all the cracks around the floor boards and joints , wire holes etc. as the air that flows through is where 60 % of the summer heat gets in . I sealed up my '46 3100 in 1976 before I'd ever heard of matting and it wasn't hot at all in summer as long as the windows were open . Simple insulation tricks learned growing up Down East with rusty old Farm Trucks .
started install well i had some time today and started to install the peel n stick so far pretty easy to work with used a blow dryer to heat make it sticky then used a small roller. after it cools off it sticks on there real good. i just hope it cuts down on temp inside the cab
That stuff may not stick on the roof or vertical panels for very long, Heat set all of it. Anything that cuts down the resonance of a panel will sound deaden it, Hopefully it will be able to do heat control also. You may want to undercoat the cab and toeboard of the cab, helps seal the metal and will add to the deadening qualities.
It will stick great. A fella posted a video over on the HAMB where a guy did a test where he stuck various insulating/deadening materials to a piece of steel, subjected them to heat, then attempted to pull the material off with some pliers. It adhered amazingly well. Here's a link, go to post 239 here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711889&highlight=peel+stick&page=12

Adhesion I always use an ether soaked rag to clean the attaching surface before installing new hood pads (similar repair) and so far , I never had one come loose yet .
