I have been driving my 54 3100 for the past ten years after a 3 year back yard restoration.

In 2012, the truck sat in storage most of the year as I was sidetracked by medical challenges.

I am back and have driven my 54 several times over the past month or so.

The issue I have with my brakes is the rear passenger brake locks up early when I brake hard. Today I opened up both rear brakes, cleaned them up and adjusted all four. I gained a bunch of brake pedal, but the passenger rear brake still locks up early when the brakes are applied with anything but minimal pedal pressure.

There is an oblong white blemish on the front shoe of the malfunctioning brake. I found nothing else out of the ordinary. Could an insect have laid eggs on the brake pad, then when mashed, turned into a sticky spot on the shoe?

This is about all I can figure out. I plan to drive it a while before I open the brakes up again and see if the condition may correct itself.

Any thoughts? I failed to make pictures for Zig.

I am very pleased to have met my medical challenges head on and am determined to whip them.

    Jim

Almost always this is caused my brake fluid leaking out onto the shoe ~ you can wash it with hot water & soap to clean the fluid off , while it's drying , gently lift up the lower lip of the rubber dust cup on the brake cylinder , check both sides ~ if it's damp , the cylinder is shot and weeping , replace or rebuild both cylinders on that axle .

Well I hope you're through with the medical stuff? I would think by now you have really good fishing weather. If that doesn't make you feel better...
Glad to know you're still alive and kickin', Jim!

    Thanks Nate

    Nate,

Your analogy makes a good bit of sense. I will use your strategy and bet the issue is resolved.

You should charge for advice, even palm readers do.

    Thanks
