    Hi Guys

I'm doing an oil change for the first time on my 1965 C10 230ci straight 6. Now the owners manual specifies 10W30 oil, however here in the UK it is difficult to get hold of. Do you know what other grade of oil i could use? I will be doing approx 2000 miles per year.

Also changing the diffential cover gasket, same as above what modern grade of oil can be used here?

Thank you your guidance will be appreciated this side of the pond!!:)

Dave, is it easier to get 10/30 weight, probably a better choice... for the rear axle 90 weight, do you know if you have a posi in the rear axle..?

I had a '70 Nova with a 230 I-6, my first car. Dad bought the car new and handed it down to me in 1977. He always used straight 30 weight and changed it every 3,000 miles. I followed in his foot steps. In the winter I would use 10W30, and straight 30 weight the rest of the year.

When I sold the car in 1985 it had over 140,000 miles and the motor had never been apart, and still ran great.

    Hope that helps.

    Oh Boy ~

Oil threads always create flame wars .

Any multi-vis engine oil is going to work fine .

If you love this rig and want to take good care if it , use Diesel rated oils .

Rear end and steering box both use 90W gear oil .

Don't forget to raise it off the ground and grease it ~ there's scads of Zerk fittings under there .
