New to the site and see a lot of knowledge here. My temp gauge on my truck reads HOT, almost pegs the temp gauge on the hot side. I take the radiator cap off and insert a temp gauge and the water is about 150 to 160 degrees, truck doesn't show any signs of overheating, new radiator, t-stat and gskt, temp sending unit, one wire temp sender, unhook wire and temp gauge goes past cold, ground the wire and the gauge pegs hot, so the temp gauge and associated wiring is working fine. Does anybody have an idea of what is going on? not sure if the new sending unit and the old gauge are compatible, they don't seem to work on the same parameters I guess. Any suggestions?? Thanks

First thing is to ensure there are ground straps between the gauge cluster and the cab , the cab and the frame , the cab and the engine , etc. .

Then you can begin swapping out various senders , yes they have different Ohms values .
