So i went to pick up my truck today and find to my dismay that the frame rail behind the drivers door is rusted through. I was woundering if anyone could offer me advice on repairing it, also looking for a price on 64 chevy k-30 hubs and were to find them. thanks ~ Patrick Whitton
It sounds like big trouble. If it is rusted through in that place then it is probably thin in other places. Look for another frame. If you want to go crazy jim myiers racing makes frames for 60-72 trucks. Other than that check the junk yards. You can check Randy's Ring and Pinion for axle parts. Good Luck. Brian
" jim myiers racing makes frames for 60-72 trucks. " Jim makes a supurb frame !! Just not for 4 wheel drive... I'm afraid you will need to scrounge the wrecking yards, or look for a doner vehicle. DVal
From what I understand, the frames were approx. the same size from 1963 all the way up to 1987. If that's the case, you could always nab up a 4x4 parts truck from the mid 70's to 80's and just swap the body over to it. That's an easy way to solve your frame problem, AND get power steering/brakes (including disc front brakes). Another bonus to doing this is, there are literally tons of aftermarket upgrades to those trucks out there! If it were me, I'd go that route rather than trying to hunt down an original 63-66 4x4 frame, then paying out the nose for it, then having to completely re-work it to make it useable (and safe). Just my $.02, though.
