Hello, I am trying to figure out what kind of subframe is grafted to the frame in the attached pictures. I bought the frame about four years ago and the person I bought it from had no Knowledge of clipped frames. The bolt pattern is 5 on 4.75 like an s-10. Just curious if anyone on here may be able to give me ideas on how to tell. Thanks for any help.
Camaro? looks like camaro wheels. cant see the brakes. maybe a monte carlo. The s-10s are supposed to be a little narower.
It looks like a mid 70's Camaro clip. The front steer makes it a little more difficult to connect the steering to the column. This clip works best on the 55-59 trucks. The early Camaro or Nova clip with rear steer works best on the 47-54 trucks. The way this frame is set up your truck will be very low and when you open the hood your engine will look like it is sitting in a hole. I hope this helps ....Big Tim
Front Clip The spesifications reminds of a 70 Camaro clip/V 8 engine mounts. What kind a brakes setup does the clip have? A friend of mine used this setup in his 49 truck and it works, but he had to lower the rear-end quite a bit so that his ride became stable. Rear end from Camaro to.I remember he installed a 350 crate engine. The truck speeds well and has anough power but it became pretty stiff as the chassis is lowered.
The clip is mid 70's, 74 and up. The way you can tell is the location of the steering box which is in front of the A arms on this clip, The 67-73 were called rear steer cause the steering box is located behind the A arms. The earlier clip works best for the 47-54 trucks cause it enables you to maintain the stock location of the steering column. The later clip makes it hard to mount a steering column. Most times the builder ends up moving the hole in the floor board up in to the fire wall to get the right angle for the steering shaft....Big Tim
1978 Camaro front clip I have a 53 GMC with a 1978 Camaro front clip. I have noticed more than a few articles on old trucks with a 1978 clip. I was going to ask if anybody knew why this clip was so popular. It is front steer which gets the steering box out of the way of headers. The hole in the firewall has been moved but the steering wheel is in a comfortable position. I would prefer the front wheels to be in another inch though.
