Can you get at them with an Impact wrench if so try to tighten a little then loosen

no, I broke heads off I got manifold on bench. put pipe wrench to protruding stud and if I break whats left, I figure I will try to drill out and replace with hard bolt..sound right?
    thanks..andy

Yea, you could drill out and maybe re-tap the threads! just a thought could you apply
heat from a torch to the studs? get the stud glowing red then let it cool down before
you use the pipe wrench! Just a thought!

    Good Luck!

If you have a welder, weld a nut back on it and then use the impact wrench.

    Little HEAT

I grind a groove for a screwdriver or used channel locks if there is something to grab, and some heat. If you drill start with a smaller size bit (new good quality bit) good luck. been there....

    Broken Stud

    I assume it's the collector stud you're struggling with ? .

Wire brush it very well then find the biggest flat washer you can with the correct size hole , slip that over the old stud stub and weld a nut to the stud , once cooled , use the gas torch to heat up the stud & nut white hot then rapidly quench it with the garden hose ~ the rapid contraction of the white hot stud will cause it to shrink & break the threads loose .

The flat washer ensures you don't overheat the manifold proper and prevents the torch's flame from heating the manifold flange at the same time you're super heating the stud .

Remember to run a Tap in the hole before installing the new stud and never , EVER use a bolt in the exhaust manifold flange .

The slower and more carefully you approach this repair ,the easier and better it will go .

If this is for a V-8 , new Ram's Horn exhaust manifolds are available from ATP
