for everyone yet? Going back to work after lunch the little Napa fan stopped working and I hit all the red lights back to the office it seemed.

Days like today I feel like I should put a/c on the truck.

Who has installed an A/C system on their trucks and still have the I6 in it?

Charles~ Spent the day in my garage getting the top of my trucks hood down to bare metal. Metal roof on said garage. Heat index of 104? Thankfully, by 3 o'clock I was done. I then had to take my daughter and her friend to the pool. ( I had to... ;) )
When it gets real hot and I'm dying for AC, I like to remember a time when that wasn't even around. (Not even swamp cooling) Then it doesn't feel quite so bad...

Here are a few photos from my vintage air install. The compressor is located down where the original generator was and a 12 alternator is mounted above. The engine brackets are from VA as well.

    A word to the wise!

Never make small talk to SWMBO while driving across Arkansas in August remarking about how hot it is and uttering those infamous words: "Remember back in the day before autos had A/C and we used to take trips across the heartland?" It took 10 minutes before the pressure switch in the Tahoe went out and the A/C was blowing 110 degree air!

It's been a hot one here in Houston/Tomball and we're not even in the hottest part of the summer yet! We hit 103 to 105 for 3 straight days 2 weeks ago! Thank God it cooled down to 94 after that!:D

    Heat

    Yep ;

It seems every Summer I decide to begin doing front end or other heavy labor works , right when the mercury passes 100?...... .

    Oops .

It looks like that Vintage Air kit uses the Sanden compressor , this is really important as the Sanden compressor uses significantly less power to run so you're engine doesn't think you're driving uphill in the heat with the park brake on  .

Using the very biggest condenser you can fit in , helps a lots too .

I waffle back and forth about this but so far , I keep my trucks non AC and do just fine , I simply sweat like a pig and carry lots of water .

Charles, I also installed Vintage Air in my truck. It went in very well. Instructions clear, and brackets and all included. I called and talked to them on the phone to be sure I got what I needed, as I have a '55 235 in my GMC. (Sorry ;o) One note, VA insists that a specific type of crimping tool be used on the pressure hose fittings. I had the local NAPA do mine and a few days ago went out to find refrigerant oil spewed around the area near the firewall. Have not yet recharged to find exactly where it came from, but am suspicious of the crimp connection. Just keep that in mind.
BTW Nate, that is in fact a Sanden comp. And it doesn't seem to load down the engine bad at all. 'Course, I've only driven around the block a few times with mine. Also, Past 3 summers I've had jobs planned for me that require me working outside in June, July, or August. Poor job planner, I'd say. Got to 108 last week while I was building a wood swingset for the Grandkids, and their Grandma.

Thanks for the photos of the installs of the A/C units. That gives me something to shut for. We have had the last few days milder heat than last weekend and the first part of the week.

For hoses being crimped I go to the local farm tractor dealer or repair shops to have them do it for me.

I installed an Old air hidden setup on mine and on the 53, with the 6. I happen to be in Florida now delivering the 77 Ford, I am going to visit the 53 while I am here, and am dragging back a 41 Ford. The Old Air works great in the 53, I am having issues with mine.....never get time to work on it. I highly reccommend Vintage Air, it is the only one I will be installing in any future cars.

Check the assembly thread to see how I installed it.

    Here ya go~

This is what is installed on my truck~ :p

BTW, this doesn't care if it's 6 or 12 volt, and best of all, it won't add to overheating... Just sayin'. :D
