Hello, Anyone have any ideas on how I could get speedometer and tach to work? Here's the problem. I have original cluster with tach & gauges, but I have 5 speed GM manual transmission (1993) which sends elec. signal to speedo. Also, I changed coil to HDI so not sure how to connect original tach. Ideas and suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Dave Whiting
RE: Tachometer hookup, speedo hooku If you have an HEI distributor the tach hooks directly to the HEI. ( unless you have an older factory installed SUN tach that MAY require a sending unit. Good luck finding one!) Try hooking directly to the HEI first. On the underside of the distributor you will see a "BAT" ( battery) terminal that should have a 12 volt connection on it already if the truck is running. Right next to it is a terminal marked "TACH" for ,,,, well,,, you know.... The newer trans you have used a Electronic Generator. I don't know if it is possible to convert that to a mechanical cable or not. Call your local GM performance parts dealer and ask them. DVal
RE: Tachometer hookup, speedo hooku You might be stuck on your speedo problem. One solution is to Install an eletronic speedo. I've seen a kit that you remove the guts from your guage cluster and install a new billet alu faceplate. You can then select the guages that you want to install into your cluster. Contact Auto Meter they might have a better solution for you.

If you go with aftermarket gauges watch the fuel gauge ! 90 ohm gauges and 30 ohm senders don't like one another ! Because the stock sender has the fuel pickup built as a unit you cannot simply swap the gas tank's sending unit with the one supplied with the gauge kits. You must buy a 30 ohm fuel gauge with the kit, OR replace the tank with one that has the sender and fuel pickup as seperate components. The gauge panel pictures is produces by Haneline. Others are Bose Engineering as well as many other billet style suppliers. DValentine
RE: Tachometer hookup, speedo hooku Thank you both for your suggestions and advice. The billet aluminum cluster looks good. I like the idea of putting my own gauges in but I am going for more of a stock look with this truck. I checked with a local specialty parts store and they wanted 420 dollars (ouch) for a kit that would convert the speedometer from electric to mechanical. I tried sending a picture of my truck but wasn't able to. Will try again some other time. Happy restoring Dave W
