Hey guys Im new to the forum but I figured this would be the best place to get some info. First of all I have a '66 GMC C1000 pickup, it has the 305 v6 in it with the 3 on the tree tranny. My first problem is that the clutch seems to be slipping when letting off the clutch and giving it quite a bit of gas in first gear. It used to be able to break the tires loose fairly easy but now you can defiantly tell it is slipping. Now I know I have been asking for this to happen when I drive it hard like that, but Im having trouble finding a new clutch for it. Which that brings me to my second question. I have plans to put in a slightly warmed up 350 in the pickup, I have heard that the bellhousing off the original tranny will bolt right up to the 350, is this true? Also, what clutch should I look at buying since I will be doing the engine swap fairly soon? Lastly is the 3 speed thats in the pickup hold up to the 350? If anyone has done a swap similar to this Id appreciate all the info you have on this. Thanks for looking
3 Speed It was designed & built to handle the 350 so have at it . Anything will break if you Cowboy it too much . While you have it out for Clutch Service , be smart and replace the out put shaft seal so it won't be dripping gear oil , then run fully synthetic gear oil in it , you'll notice improved shifting right away and the synthetic really retards wear . Be sure to replace the pilot bearing in the center of the crankshaft ! . RockAuto.com will have the whole clutch in a kit affordably , including the alignment tool . Use two longer bolts with the heads cut off & screwed into the bell housing as alignment pins , this makes the re assembly go super fast & easy , won't beat up the new clutch either . Of course grease or replace the U-Joints , flex them whilst the tranny's out so see of notchy or loose . Pix of the job would be nice to show the others how it's done .
