Hey guys need some info on this. I have a 62 with the torsion bar suspension,I want to put a newer crossmember in but I was told the 60-62 frame rails are wider than the 63-66 , and will not work. Has anyone done this? PLease let me know before I go get another crossmember. Thanks Jeremy
Hey Jeremy wish I had an answer on that for you, but I dont. D. Valtine would probably have the right answers on that,D. Valtine been here longer than most of us. Need some help here...Thanks, Morton;-)
"D. Valtine would probably have the right answers on that,D. Valtine been here longer than most of us." HAY ! I resemble that statement ! http://www.grimmemennesker.dk/data/media/1/farmer_john.jpg That frame IS slightly wider, but a crossmember swap would be possible with little trouble. I gotta ask though. Why do you want to get rid of the torson bar suspension ? A lot of folks like them.. DVal
sorry didnt mean that statment that way, if a persons older than another that just means they have been around the block a couple of more times than the other. HA!HA!
I guess its header related, I'd like to have full lengh headers, and I could go with shorties. I guess its a lot of work just to have longer headers. Jeremy
There is a urban myth about performance gains with full length headers. Full length headers will improve the HP output slightly, but only at the top end. That's not where most of us do our driving on the street. Here is a chart from Sanderson's web page that decribes what I'm talking about. http://www.sandersonheaders.com/images/shortvslongtubechart.gif So, if you wanted full length because of performance, you would be going through a lot of work for little gain. DVal
Hey DVal, Yea I know what you mean thats to much work for little or any hp gain. I'm asking for a little info because I'm about to tear mine down to the frame. I'm finishing up on building my shop, I'd rather be almost finished with my truck , but you know how that goes. Thanks for the help. Jeremy
Hey Short Step. I have a 62 that i'm in the middle of building. I have mine in bare frame status. You can find full length that fit you just need to do a little trial and error. My truck is big block olds powered (455). I have headers for a early 70's cutlass w/455. They fit like they were built for my truck. Not sure what power plant you have but full length headers are possible. I just would like a sway bar for it. LOL
[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-22-06 AT 08:17 AM (CST)]I have a fresh 283 in now , I plan to keep it in , if I decide on another it will be another small block chevy. Jeremy Oh as for the sway bar I'm not real sure about that one. Maybe one of the suspension companies like hotchkis might be able to help.
