my 52 After looking and reading I wanted to share my project with all of you. I have gotten many second winds to keep going when it seems overwhelming by looking at what you all have done and do 1 is attempt at sand blasting 2Frame with m2 front install 3 Cab in epoxy prime 4 motor and trans in frame first time 5 ramhorn clearance
rear end I am running 3.42 gears out of a 1980 chev truck with an auburn posi installed I have the 4l60e transmission with 330hp sbc crate engine to drive it all I had the lugs redrilled to 5x4.75 bolt pattern to match the front. a drive shaft from 69 nova shortened 1 inch disk front drum rear moved the gas tank to rear and installed red holley 7psi electric fuel pump electric rad fan, had to as motor to low to run stock fan and no room tried posting more pictures but kept getting an error 500
Very Nice. Looks real good to me, cab looks excellent, did you do much work to it? Whos brand of front end are you using? Chevy truck rear end- 12 bolt? Makes me really want to find time to work on mine more. Please keep workin' on more pictures, WE LIKE PICTURES HERE!
I have the 10 bolt 8.5 inch corporate rear diff I used the TCI(total cost involved) mustang 2 with power rack and shimmed the power steering pump pressure output The cab was not to bad just the inner kicks both sides the lower cowls both sides welded up the fuel cap through the cab and smoothed minor dents along rear above box bed corner top of cab door bottoms all fenders welded stress fractures and pounded out dents to make filler as thin as possible 56 holes in firewall welded shut and smoothed about 200 hours priming block sanding body(cause I am not fast) all body parts were sand blasted ,epoxy primed body work done, epoxy sealed, high build primed ,block sanded primed ,600 grit block sanded then painted frame was sand blasted , zinc coated and baked on at the powder coater then 2 coats of epoxy over that inner fenders were undercoated as well as under the cab
Nice work, you may find that your axle hits the exhaust when loaded, unless it comes up a bit when mounted.
Welcome to the forums! Thanks for sharing your story and photos. This looks like it's gonna be an awesome truck. You've done a lot of high quality work so far, and I can't wait to see this truck when it's done! Damon
52 update as to where I am just started the wiring with keep it clean pro 15 harness figuring out relays needed for rad fan, high and low beam, fuel pump, heater, etc. moving the battery behind the seat (optima red) using a ford solenoid to have the starting wire(#2 gauge) live only when cranking engine 1 lowering cab 2 almost down and yes I was nervous lol 3 had to see how the gauges looked! 4 hood on and all aligned no hood flutter (had changed passenger hinges due to a lot of rivet slop in hinge) 5 wiring started you can see the seat mounts I made to fit the split back bench seat from a Chrysler (they fit perfect and the upper are 2 inches below back window) I kept the original seat base shroud in as I wanted storage under the seat as well as behind and did not want things rolling out hitting the brakes
52 latest wiring just picked up a 1993 grand Cherokee fuse panel and am going to use it as a fused relay station under the hood Going to power the electric rad fan , headlights (high/low beam), fuel pump, ac fan override, horn, 1 starting to tear apart the wires in fuse panel 2 the panel 7 relays all fused should look like that when done less a few fused outlets I will only keep 3 15 amp fused outlets for future use and only use 6 of the 7 relays keeping one for future use 3 panel will tuck in beside fender here 4 picked up a washer fluid tank and pump but don't like it, way to big, will keep looking for smaller fender mount unit. Anyone with ideas on this please share! Ordered the Chrysler terminals for fuse block from parts dealer and will be in tomorrow.
Keep up the good work, and PLEASE don't stop posting photos of your progress, these are great. Out of curiosity, where did you get those gauges? Very cool. Damon
gauges hey happy holidays, Well the terminals ended up not being Chrysler after all and I went and used universal terminals and they will work ok. Got the fused relays rewired for the electric rad fan and AC override and high beam and low beam done .A few left to do after xmas SinclairChevy you asked about the gauges and they are from newvintageusa.com (Mark Surel) They were the only gauges that I could find with tach and all quad gauges, internal signal indicators, high beam indicators, and low oil or alternator light . I have not decided what I will use that light for yet probably low brake pressure indicator. The gauges are a direct fit unit on the website. And thanks I think they look good too
Thanks for the update! Interesting direction you are going, which is great because there may be someone else out there wanting to do the same thing. Thanks for documenting this.
aarrrg f@#$%^&*( Finally after waiting for 3 weeks to get in a new 12 volt light switch, it arrives without the knob, 1 step forward and 2 steps back, Why cant the guys who ship this don't check details like this, Now I have to reorder another one and wait, watt, wait, On a good note the oil pressure switch to turn off my fuel pump is in and I can at least get this wired up and done.
