Finishing up the body work on the cab of my 50 and am curious how others have addressed the belt line seam on the rear of the cab. If seam sealed, what product was used and what were your long term results? I'm also considering welding the seam solid, any concerns with this option? One of these days I will post some pictures of my truck, I'm just horrible about documenting my work. Thanks, John
We blast the seam with a very fine sand called sugar sand or white sand which gets deeper into the crack than course media. The seam is on a curved surface so warpage is not a problem. The area is then coated with a POR15 type coating and a light coat of primer is sprayed on this BEFORE IT'S DRY. This is absolutely necessary because these coatings are so hard that topcoats will not adhere to them even if roughed up with sandpaper or a Scotch pad.
