I am new here so if there are previous post on this subject maybe someone can direct me. I am in the final stages of restoring my 64 C10 SWB truck and as stated in an older post, Tx requires you to have a parking brake to pass inspection but everything is missing on mine. I am considering upgrading to a foot activated one in lieu of the lever but not sure where to start. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Welcome to our site! There's a fella here named Woogeroo, he's done his homework on the stock set-up. Here's a link for ya: http://houseofwoogeroo.wordpress.com/19601966ctis/ebrakes/ As for the foot brake it has been done too. You need to be up for some some major surgery though. : http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=469849 On my truck I installed a hand operated floor mounted brake from Lokar. More on that at post # 21 here:https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=13928&page=2 Lokar also has a vertical style hand brake, I used on of those on my old Model T pickup. You have a couple options if you want to go aftermarket.
I got a foot operated parking brake assembly off a 84 Chev pickup at a junk yard. It required welding one stud (a 5/16" elevator bolt) to the kick panel, using a spacer for standoff, and drilling 2 holes thru the firewall. I got all the related cables and brackets too. I also had to heat and bend the fresh air vent lever to keep use of the vent. It all worked out well. I'd include photos but my truck is totally apart at the time.
E Brake Woes Thanks to all for your time and input. The replies are a big help and now I have a good starting point. At my age memory isn't one of my better attributes anymore. Been working on this project for about 2 years now so now that I am down to the final details it is hard to remember what I took off where! Will probably have more questions but thanks for the help.
