Anybody have a picture of an original bare 49-50 firewall. I need to know what were the original holes before I start repairing the chop job the DPO did. Thanks.
Firewall Pics Hey Rustydog, thanks alot. The one that is straight on is great. If possible could you get one that's a little closer so I can make out all the holes. I tried to zoom into the picture but it didn't work. Thanks I appreciate it very much.
There should be some firewall pictures from when I disassembled the body donor for my project. Check my build thread. Damon
Firewalls Thanks guys, Now I can compare the pics and see what I have to patch. I saved the pictures so I can print them out and take them with me to the barn. Now I just have to wait for some warm days!!!
OK, Here are a couple of pictures of my '52 cab, for comparison. If you're not confused by now, maybe this will help.
Holes and more holes Well, yes I am getting confused. I see some have holes that are different than the other pictures. I'll try and compare all the pictures to my body and see what ones I can patch up without filling in an original and probably needed hole. I still appreciate all the responses.
I love it! That looks like my firewall too! So many holes, so few ideas of WTF they were doing drilling all those holes?!?! I do believe that some of them are to secure the firewall mat (or whatever you want to call the inside piece that fits on the inside of the firewall) to the firewall. (Small holes) The rest? Once I got mine back together, the rest of those empty holes will vanish.
I took more of mine, but the shop light burned out and its got shadows all over it, but I think you can still see everything. Let me know if you need more. 1) top driver 2) bottom driver 3) center 4) top pass 5) bottom pass
Lots of Holes Hey guys, Thanks a bunch. I have lots of pictures to compare to now! I think Damon has a point, the only difference I notice is where the heater control valve comes out on the different year trucks. Hole locations are close but not the same. I guess if I weld up the wrong ones I'll just have to redrill!!
More Holes The more pictures the better. I have some idea of the main harness and the choke/throttle cables, etc from the manual but it never hurts to have more references. Especially for the heater valve control and hoses. So post away!!! I need all the help I can get. Along with a few warm days to boot.
Here are a few from when I first got it. That 3rd pic is to remind you about the fender support bar so that you don't close those holes.
Holey Crap! Thanks Rustydog, I know I have some pictures somewhere like these but I brought ole Betsy home in 2005 and I'm not exactly sure where I put them? I see a little hole above the voltage reg - any idea what it's for? I think I have most of them figured out except for what heater valve goes in mine. I'm not even sure I have the valve left even though I have the heater. Anyway, I can compare all these photos and make sure I don't plug up anything that I really need. Thanks again. If you get down this way (Lake Placid) give me a shout and we can kick some dirt and talk trucks!!
I think it is for the push trough clips that hold the floor insulation mat in place. If you look at #4 in the last ones I sent, just above the heater hose and slightly to the right you can see the pointed tip of one of these clips. I have my heater valve, but am pretty sure the whole thing is junk as they had the hose looped off. I'm not too concerned about it as I intend to do a Vintage air or other complete system. I can't imagine not having AC, it's even difficult to breathe down here without AC. Years ago, work sent me to Lake Placid just about every day of the week. Life has changed drastically for me since then, I got a bright idea to start my own business, and now I look at free time being as valuable as gold. Don't see much of it, but would love to find the time to see your toy.
Rusty Dog ; I'm still trying to figure out why they put a turn signal flasher bracket in the engine compartment ?! .
