    Disk brake conversion question

I want to do the disk brake upgrade on my 57. I think I understand it, I want a kit with out a booster MC for a 6 lug or a separate MC for front disk and rear drum braking. I will also need a proportional value to accommodate the two different brake systems I keep reading that the 15 inch...

    Automatic tranny issues

Thanks Bill, stupid question, would it make any sense to go to a manual transmission with the 3:38s in the rear end? What transmission would you consider? I’m not stuck on an automatic, I got the truck that way.

    Automatic tranny issues

Thanks Bill, I was hoping you would weigh in. I’m not totally surprised with your conclusion as that’s what I thought it was. Tom’s Langdon’s information implys the 200 might be a better fit but it seems to me I’ve read their have been some issues going to an OD tranny with the 235 engine...

    Automatic tranny issues

Ok here goes. It’s been a while since I posted but looking for some feed back on a automatic transmission with a 235 engine. I have a 57 Chevy truck with the 235 and a t350 tranny. I up grade the rear end gears last winter to 3:38 and have driven a little this year and while it has improved...

Instrument panel removal on a 1958 Chev Apache truck

On my 57 it’s just the three screws. Speedometer cable needs to be unfastened from behind and oil line will have to be unscrewed but that shouldn’t prevent it from moving or coming out. Did you try pushing it from behind?

    Question on bed mounting

As always thanks Nate, sorry about my delayed response, have been out of touch for a bit. The frame seems to be good and it seems to be in the box as best I can tell. I may go ahead and shim the low side as it seems to be out about 1/2 inch.

    Question on bed mounting

On my 57 I have rubber washers in between the the crossmembers for the bed and the frame in about 4 places per side. My bed is apr 1/2 inch lower on the LH side than the RH side. Can I take them out or add a couple more to get the bed level left to right. I don’t see the washers them in the...

Thanks guys. Interesting. Your indicating that installing a PCV valve may help. Worth a try.

    Engine weapage

Is some engine weapage normal? I might have a spot the size of a half dollar or less on two engines. Seems it coming from the rear seals on both of them. Not sure it’s worth the expense to to get a perfectly dry engine.

What rear end to look at

Hey, thanks for the reply’s. This for the 57 which as you point out has the open drive line. I am leaning toward the 3.38 gears as both our host and Dead Zone offer them. I just need to find a reputable shop to install them as my understanding this is not a DIY job. Dave

What rear end to look at

Any body running the 235 engine with a TH 350 tranny ? If so what rear gearing are you using and are you happy with it?

    Pertronics???

I have installed the Pertronics in my 57 and having a bit of a problem getting it to start smoothly. It was running OK before. I have statically checked the timeing following the valve train procedure that’s out there and did not removed the dizzy so it should be pretty close. Am I...

    Pertronics help

Thanks Nate. I went to Pertronics and ordered the unit they recommended for my truck, 1168LA I think. I will look at the contacts as I found that I’m missing voltage on the terminal about 20% of the time which is indicative of dirty contacts. For years working in electronics I have used a...

    Pertronics help

Bill, many thanks and thank you for taking the time to draw out the schematic. You’ve confirmed what I thought and did a far better job of explaining it then I could of. My truck is wired as you indicate but will try to hard wire the Pertronics to the battery when I get on it again. I’m...

    Pertronics help

Bill, a stupid question please, where does the coil get it’s power from in the start position. What I mean is the ignition switch provides power to the purple terminal on the starter solenoid to energize it. I have two green wires on the other small terminal on the solenoid where one wire...

    Pertronics help

As always thanks for your input Bill. I will try your suggestion, I’ve been puzzled as to why it doesn’t have 12 volts all the time regardless of whether the ignition switch is in start or run position. I have been working on the wiring so I’ve got something crossed there I suspect.

    Pertronics help

I installed the Pertronics ignition system this week end and can’t get the 57 to run well at all. This is the third vehicle I have installed a Pertronics system and haven’t had any issues in the past. Hooked up the red wire to the hot side of the resistor per their instructions so it should be...
