    The challenge

i'd love to load up the family in the '49 and make the 2-1/2 hour drive from Temple to Dallas, but my '49 is still in pieces. Perhaps when you get the date, we'll head up in something newer. jg

    Engine fans

I would ask a similar question, would one be able to put a larger fan from a 235 onto a 216? Truck will be used as mainly a parade rig, and in a hot climate (texas summer) Potential issues?

anyone know of a Steele Rubber promotion code?

I am a bargain shopper and will hunt for a deal when I can. However, I've done enough stuff on the cheap to know the difference in inexpensive, and just plain junk. Sometimes, you do get what you pay for. Don't think me a snob, but for my dress work shirts, I only buy Ralph Lauren shirts...

Is there a source for a bench seat for 1947-54?

do you want a complete bench seat, or would the seat and back springs work? I have a complete seat, sans covering that I would give you for the cost of shipping it. I will even have a spare seat frame a little piece down the road.

    powder coating VS painting

Awesome Idea! I was planning to have my wheels done, but will have to hold off and wait to get the inner fenders and the running boards done. I have a powdercoater that I work with locally. I have a plasma CNC sign business and periodically get work done. He is super cheap, quick, and top...

    Vendors for interior parts

Just a thought, and a blind one at that, as I am a LONG way away from worrying about headliners and door panels. Thinking that perhaps using something like laminate for countertops would work? Or else a thin plexiglass/lexan material? I know they wouldn't swell.

    Texas Vintage License Plates

New issue Texas plates are 100% printed. All kinds, every kind. Prisoners are too busy getting college degrees and watching cable tv to punch numbers on license plates.

    Texas Vintage License Plates

I have a pair of 49 Farm Truck Plates for my 1949. I have a pair of 52 plates that I bought before I knew it was necessary to get plates that match the year of the truck on the title. I've found a few that were dented/rusted/faded on ebay. I repainted the 49 set and they turned out great...

What did you use to shrink the heat shrink? heat gun, butane torch, cig lighter, zippo? Just curious what works the best with the least danger of smoking the whole harness.

    puke can

My overflow tank was completely rotted out, so no "cleaning up". I just replaced with an $8.95 universal tank from O'Reilly. I'm going for close, as I don't have the pocketbook for perfect restoration. 98% of the people who look at the truck will not know that the plastic tank did not belong...

1949 3800 Chevrolet DRW Farm Truck

A cool pic that my cousin took of the truck parked alongside an old barn. Thinking about having it sent out and framed.

1949 3800 Chevrolet DRW Farm Truck

My 1949 3800 Chevrolet DRW Farm Truck. This is the original condition after 61 years of farm work. Lived in a barn in Central Kansas until I bought it and brought it home to live in Texas. It is about to undergo a full restoration to bring it back to nice and shiny. Thought it would be nice...

dump that thing in an electrolysis tank. will easily and safely remove rust from any steel item. Avoid its use with aluminum and other alloys. How to build an electrolysis tank: Use a plastic or non-metal container large enough to fit your part(s). I have a plastic coffee can, a 5...

    Hey guys, check this out!!

craigslist is another great place to look. Place the ad for wanting one, or cruise around in the towns that you are willing to travel to for one. I found mine that way. A barn-fresh, well stored 3800 that was retired from farm work 6 years previously. Was even set up on blocks to keep the...

    Radios in AD's

I saw a post and am planning to use this idea in mine. I would prefer to not cut the dash for an aftermarket radio, or even spend the $150+ on a radio as I typically use my iPhone for music, even in my newer trucks. Note: this only works if you exclusively use a mp3 player. The skinny was...
