Okay guys, I need a little help locating rebuild kits for my 1t. It seems they have been discontinued most everywhere I've looked. Spec's indicate 1-3/8" bore. I only need the seal cups. The rest of it looks decent. Ain't it lookin purdy! Rick
Looking good Rick! Man, I haven't seen single action lever shocks in a hundred years! Yours look awesome! I know of 2 vendors who claim to have wheel cylinder repair kits with 1-3/8" bores. Jim Carter's and Chevs of the 40's. Have you tried going to your local NAPA store. You'd be amazed at the amount of parts they handle for these trucks! Keep up the good work and post more pictures!
For my 1 ton the people which did my rears used Napa, the kid I got the truck from had already done the fronts and they had to have them relined at Napa also which for him was in South Dakota and I had mine done here in Simi Valley, Ca. Hope this helps. Charles '48 3804 reg. as a '47 9 foot bed
Classic parts our host has brake parts for 1ton trucks. look on page 57 for part numbers #71-191 kit fits front and rear cyls. 47 to 52 1 tons used 1 3/8 cyls frt and rear.
for my 3/4 ton 52, i have huck brakes, and i had to get the pads from jim carters. everything else i got from classic parts and or lmc.

Hey Ken The shocks are somewhat nostalgic. I'm putin' Mater back the way I got him for now...after I figure out all the new (old) nuts and bolts, I'll start changin' things as the nickels allow. Axles and brakes will be at the top of the list. Just want to get him back on the road and enjoy drivin...with the grandkids!! Rick
Nothing wrong with those shocks! I've got nothing against those shocks. I had them on my '48 Coupe, dad's '40 sedan delivery, his '41 coupe and '49 PU. They'll work fine on yours too unless you decide the drop a meaty V8 in Mater (I still love that name for your truck!) and slolam thru parking cones at 70 mph
opps sorry zig. I had to get the pads for the front brakes from Jim Carters... the back brakes, from your truck are brand new... and they fit great but it looked like Jim Carters had parts for the back also!!!
Gator man! Where are ya? Thought I'd see ya chime in here at some point. Q: for you. What about shocks on the rear axle? I've got a mount on the axle (probably for 3/4 ton???) but nothing on the frame to attach it to. Nothing noted in my parts book? Rick
Hey Rick~ I can't hold a candle to the G-man, but on my 3/4, the lower end of the shock mounts to a bracket welded to the front of the axle and the top of the shock mounts to a tower that is riveted to the frame about 30 degrees up from the front of the axle. I could post a picture if you think it would help...
3/4 VS 1 Ton I do have a 3/4, so that's probably the difference. Wasn't sure. The G-man needs to get back here and say what's what. You could try to send him a PM, just in case he doesn't read all of these... Ken prolly has a file on this very thing. He finds files on damn near anything you could have a problem with!
Zig, correct me if I'm wrong here, but your chassis should be set up to use tubular shocks whereas Rick's is set up for lever action shocks. Having never actually seen a 1 ton chassis, I'm certainly no expert, but I would think that they would simply bolt on to the frame and be connected to the axle via shock links.
Shocking You mat be right Ken, If I look at the frame and the shocks I have on the front...they might line up. However, the link for the axle wont work. Where are ya Gator? No hurry...I a ton (ha!) a work to do before that. Rick
