Hi guys. My son slammed the door to hard and broke the window. The wanted $200 to fix it so I bought the window from Classic Parts for $39. How hard is it to replace. Should we try it ourselves?
The first time it will take a while but it's doable. The vent window needs to come out. You will readily locate the screws through the outer door frame and where the vent divider channel goes into the door but there is a bolt way at the bottom of the divider post. It takes a 1/2" socket and is usually not rusted in. The entire vent assembly comes out with a little turning and wiggling and this allows the window to be rotated 90 degrees and lifted out. You should check the window channel felt and the rubber window wipers (there often missing) and if there is anything metal that the glass can bump into. If all this is good then King Kong can't crack a window by slamming the door whether the glass is up, down, or anywhere in between. Can't say this about the 47-50 with the long one piece glass (but which I like better).
Take the frame out You might be able to save a bunch if you take the window frame out of the door and take it with the glass to your local shop. My local shop did it for $65, including the glass, but had it for a couple weeks. Larry
Get the frame out, then use windshield urethane to install the glass in the track, don't bother with the cork and oil seal.
