Screenshot_2016-04-14-12-12-10.png Hello everyone I am a new be to this Web site but probably won't be for long. I have a 1951 chevy truck and I am a big guy so one of the first things I want to do is move gas tank back between the frame and put a nice set of bucket seats. I have no idea where to start on what is a good set of seats that will work in the truck. This truck has been restored but not back to stock. It has an oldsmobile 350 and running a turbo 400 trans. I want to make a driver so I need it to be comfortable to drive. Any help will be appreciated.

Welcome Bubba. I'm assuming you're another Texan. Where at?

Unless you plan to get seats with VERY thin or VERY vertical seat backs (front to rear) I think you'll find that removing the tank gives you very little extra space to move the seat back. The seat I put in my '52 is about 1.5 inches thinner in the seat back. By the time it is adjusted all the way back the top of the seat hits the cab sheet metal just below the rear window before any part of the seat hits the tank.

I'm 6'5" and 295 pounds, so I know your concerns.

Here is a link to the thread I wrote while replacing my seat.

    Dang, Bill~ You are big!
You got me by 3" and 93 lbs! No wonder I love driving my old truck with a reworked original seat!
    Offense or defense line?

I am in Arlington Texas. I am a big boy about 6ft 4 and right at 300. The factory seat in it now would be OK if I put an aftermarket steering wheel but I like the original that is in it.

Welcome Bubba from Arlington, TX. Bill Hanlon and I live on North edge of Houston. Spring for Bill Hanlon, and Magnolia for me. If you get out to the PATE Swap Meet next weekend, look for me South of Petty Ave. At 7th. Should be easy to spot my Yellow GMC. Would be happy to meet you. Very nice truck, too!

I've seen pics of a truck that Evan (coil over) has done where he put a rear seat from a four door BMW in a pickup. I think it was a Studebaker. Looked really nice. I asked him which BMW it came from and he typically told me that they just go to the salvage yard with a tape measure and pick one that fits. I am considering it very much.

i heard you can swap the column with a little later one, and theyre a bit shorter so you can get more space. i havent done the research yet, but thats what i was considering since i am 6'4" 350 myself.
