Here's a cute little unrestored Jimmy with the correct Long Motor , a 228 I think . Maybe a bit too high for the truck , maybe not , it's a basic stripper but appears to have an expen$ive paint job or at least they took the time to color sand it . Car wheels , lots of wrong and missing parts handicap this nice old truck but it may also be a ready to work or Hobby typ truck.... I'd certainly not think of bidding unless a personal inspection was made but it looks sort of like my truck did when I bought it and so I mention it here.... This is hopefully the link to E-pay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...110229770&refwidgettype=osi_widget,osi_widget
Nice! The only thing that scares me is the way the hood meets that b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l grill! As well as what might be under that rubber floor mat. Another GMC with Chevy gauge faces... sigh... If 6K didn't hit the $ mark, makes me wonder how high ya gotta go?
After further review... I was just outside on this beautiful evening grilling some... chicken breasts and cheering my daughter's running ability on. (Actually, I was looking at my truck while cheering my daughter's running ability on and smelling the chicken burning more and more, but-) With the idea of a chrome grill and already having a rust and chrome grill, and a painted grill on my truck I thought- I should get some masking tape out and lay out my paint idea which includes a painted grill. My daughter stopped her running to come help me lay some tape out on my truck. It met with her approval! I guess I'll stick with a painted grill- it'll be cool too!
But Zig, you didn't even ask how much! Regularly $550, sale price $466. Sheeez! Brothers is pretty proud of everything they sell.
That's only 16 dollars more than I paid for my nice new chrome CHEVY grill. They are very expensive, but well worth it for a good repop. Nate that's a cool old truck. I'd love to see that show room. Did you guys see all the classic muscle in the back ground too. I have a soft spot for mopar. TTTTOOOOO $$$$$ for a mopar build. I also like the 37 F**D in the back ground.
Two fold question and commentary! First, the two fold question: If my math is correct, you paid $450 for your repop grill (or $535)? Secondly, if it is "well worth it for a good repop", where did you get it? Just curious, not a "head thump". Now for the commentary, and this is sad. In 1970, I bought my first truck for resale intending to make a profit on it. It was a '47 F-word 1/2 ton. Initial investment, $25 as is, where is. I spent 2 days re-working the slave cylinders so we could stop it when we got it home. Before I ever wrapped a chain around the front end to drag it home, someone offered me $45 for it. Guess what? I sold it right there and drug it to his house free gratis. I felt good about more than doubling my profit at his expense. It blows my mind nowadays to think that anyone would pay four to five hundred bucks just for a grille! Like i've said a gazillion times, i'm just a dinosaur trying to adapt! Thanks for the reality check! BTW, i found the invoice for the grille that i have in the "Member's Gallery" that dad had rechromed in '98. $20 dollars per bar. Remind me to show you the grille in a couple weeks!
It's been a while and I've ordered several things since that grill, but it was $450 and is absolutely flawless and made of heavier stuff than others I have seen at car shows for $300 plus. $20 a bar is pretty cheap for getting one rechromed. Always better to go NOS but when you don't have one at all then repop it is. Well let me take that back I may have a couple laying around. Oh well, money is already spent so what do you do. Back when these cars and trucks were new I don't think people realized what the value of their vehicle then would be in the future. Do you guys ever wonder if the cars nowadays will be sought after and worthi anything in 50 or more years from now. I really cant see anything on the road today worth much in the future. Really don't see them being able to last that long. I really hope that street rods and originals won't be a dieing breed in the future. Once all the classics are gone then what will people build then? Just food for thought.
As long as there are guys like you, it will never die! You know, Bill Hanlon and I marvelled at the cars at our local Kroger's this past weekend and cruised down memory lane, even with the newer cars (pristene '72 Monte Carlo, '67 Impala, etc) and said "who would have ever thought this would be a classic?" That's why I think it's a shame to chop up an s-10! I'm getting older, i know, but the neatest, but yet, saddest thing I saw last Saturday, was, on my way home, i followed a '73 or '74 Chevy Nova, with "antique" license on it. First of all, I had a '72, which was a bitchin' ride, but how the hell could it an antique? I'm I that friggin' old? I followed it into my subdivision, and SOB, he's 3 houses down from me. I know am rambling, and need to take my meds, but what the heck, i'm living LARGE in the past tonight!
I thought those old nova's were only good for two things. Supplying us street rodders with great subframes, and going down the road FAST 1/4 mile at a time. I can't believe that some of the cars they consider classics. I guess it just has to be a certain age I guess. The 72 Monte Carlo is a gorgeous car I think, but the Impala, to me the last great looking Impala was 65 and I say that because it was the last of the six tail lights. And you know how I feel about those impala's, what a great car. My uncle used to have a 72 monte, it was green with green interior. I loved that big ol car. And dad just got rid of a 70 nova. We're street rodders not drag racers, so instead of letting it get crushed some other guy is making a drag car for himself. You know you're right about some of those S-10's. The reason I don't feel so bad about it is because I know they're going to a greater cause (putting my AD on the road). I've got a good friend of mine that has an older box body S-10 with a 350 shoved in it. He says it's pretty quick, but it's no street rod. He and dad are building a 29 ford together right now. I'll take you by there and show you the car when you're in. I think you'll like it. Enough rambling for tonight, I guess it's bed time.
