1953 gmc ?????

Hi all. I'm relatively new to the group and am looking at purchasing a truck. I've come across what is advertised as a 1953 GMC. It is a long bed truck. It looks to be in very good condition. However, from the photos it has a Chevy front end, based on the grill and the hood. The tailgate says GMC. I understand that the big difference is the engine but I can't seem to find out what the difference is or how to tell what is in the truck. It is advertised with a "235 motor" but I haven't seen it yet. I am going today to take a look at it. Is there anything specific I should look for?

Simplest way to ID a GMC vs. Chevy 6 cylinder engine is the GMC engine's valve cover has a GMC in an oval on the top. It's about 3" long and is hard to miss.

Thanks Bill. The guy just called and told me that it isn't the original engine anyway. I'm going to go take a look at it and see what it is. He said it's a GMC that someone put a Chevy hood and grill on. Which I think may be correct because the photos seem to show GMC fenders with the directional lights.

Hey Joe~ Welcome to the forum! (Especially if you have a GMC. We are the manly bunch here.) Unfortunately, if you have a GMC with a Chevy engine, you probably have a bunch of other mickey moused stuff to go with it. :/
Check it over v-e-r-y carefully before forking over the dough.
