1957 3100 series pickup

I have a good friend who's family has a one owner 1957 pickup. Short bed, step side, 6 cyl manual shift, small rear window, with an aftermarket Motorola radio. There is rust showing over the headlights, but thats about all. Ran until about 4 years ago, his "Mom" just parked it one day and has not been back except to crank it ocasionally to keep the battery up. Painted bumpers, never wrecked or even bumped for that matter. No engine problems. Has lived it's life on a farm in Tennessee parked under a metal shed when it wasn't working. What should I offer him for it?

I Really dont Think you would Find anything Better for that Price!

Thanks Allen, I am just trying to get as many opinions as possible. I am the poster child for "paying too much" over something I really want. I thought I should get some real world input on the decision this time. I appreciate your comments and help. He is a good enough friend that I could lower the offer a little if it is not appropriate.

Too many variables here .

The '57's grille is a one year love/hate thing fpr many .

If there's rust in the headlight eyebrows , guaranteed the cab corners are bad too , you'll see .

I assume tags & tile in hand ? .

*IF* it runs and *IF* it stops and *IF* the front end isn't all wobbly & worn out
(unusual) $2,000 is the maximum value here .

If you just want a nice old truck to tinker up & drive whilst you fix it up , this could be the one ~ .

These trucks can be near ruined and still easily get up & go on down the road , I know I've had many as work trucks , I still miss my old '55 Tow Truck more than you can imagine and even the junkyards didn't want it in spite of NO RUST :rolleyes: .
 
I am not crazy about the grill 55&56 look much better. This family unlike mine, buys a vehicle, drives it, then parks it and buys another. As a result they currently have this 57 pickup, a 64 Chevrolet, 69 Buick and a 7? Chevrolet just sitting around. The oldest two are in the shed. One owner and all the paperwork is present. Had a current tag until 08. I have a tripto see it up close and personal in the coming month. Thanks Nate.

If this is the read deal true Farm truck , it may well be the best truck you'll ever own .

Task Force trucks are *very* nice ~ they're roomy in the cab and ventilate well in summer , easy to make go 65 MPH on the original engine , good drivers , blah blah blah..... I can wax poetic about these fine , good looking & robust trucks for hours......

Did I mention how much I mstill miss my '55 Task Force Tow Truck ? :D it was a real shytebox lemme tell ya but boy howdy did I like eating up the miles in it.....

First ;

You have to get it and then do a major tune up and service , repair the brakes , (they're UN SAFE right now) then replace the old rotten tires with the correct ones , no low profile junk here , you may find it scoots right along @ 65 MPH now .

Then , come back and we'll see what to do next .
 
tire size

what was (is) the original tire size on these trucks?
