I bought a 57 short bed step side when I was 16 and it has sat in a field till about a month ago. Now I have the front end off of it, the strait 6 pulled, disc brakes installed, the V8 mount has just arrived along with the new tranny crossmenber. I am hitting the junk yard this weekend to get a power brake booster and master cylinder. My question to you guys is did every one shell out the cash for the kit? If not what should i be looking for in a master cylinder pedal combo. (years, trucks, cars???)
Search and you will find parts Well I do believe location has a lot to do with the decision as to scrap yard/junk yard or online used or new purchase. I remember going with my dad and picking a rim and tire from the bone yard because he need to replace his flat or bald tire on is 58 Desoto, even puling a water pump. Now-a-days any parts pre 1970 they see $$$$ so and the yards are harder to find around here. I try to fine all I need from the interned not just e-bay, but this site does help. And the premise is you need it want it you will pay for it. Some people are out to rip you off, for instance just last week a jack mounts for the 1958 truck over 100 dollars. Your master cylinder project there may be plenty out there in the yards, I went with the dis-break kit for several reasons, and one I wanted the mounting in the original location; not on the fire wall. Also wanted my kit will modify my existing front axle, so searching for parts would have be hard. Good luck with your setup. Remenber the old saying, If you want it; you will pay! (if you build it, they will come) field of dreams. (joke)
