Hey guys,

I've got a pristine 1958 Chevy Apache 3100 with a 283. The truck is in great condition, and very original. I need to replace one or both mufflers. The current mufflers are not pieced-in. Where's the best place to get "original" mufflers and are the chain muffler shops qualified to do the replacement work or should I find someone more dedicated to classic trucks?

Both? Original? I doubt that '58 Chevy trucks came with dual exhaust. I'll check the assembly manual tonight at home.

hi, i'm not exactly sure if you still have need for them but i got my mufflers at stylintrucks.com. just check them out if you like.

I went to the attic and found a old Walker catalog
(I do not know if that's fimiliar in the U.S.)
It says: single muffler system
manifold to muffler pipe #31400
pipe to muffler #31312
2" clamp #35335
muffler #35609
17/8"clamp #35407
Tailpipe over rear axle #35600
I had some original gmc mufflers(there just round cans)
but can't find them anymore
guess there sold out

As I can remember:
The front pipe from the manifold crosses over from right to left manifold outlet in front of the oilpanvalley
I saw a photo of that in a old hotrod magazine from 1974 (How to build your first engine)
where they teardown a old 283cui from a second series truck

Walker Exhaust

They're still in business and I bet that muffler # is still good .

I am 65, so you would consider me old school. When it came time I got a couple of the round GMC truck mufflers (Walker) and turn downs to put on my 63 Bel Air with a 409. They sound great.
