Hi guys, well I have had Crustine for almost 2 years now. Due to being apart of several other forums I just haven't had the time to update on them all. Unfortunately since this one has been the most quiet of them all I don't check in much, but that is about to change...hopefully. haha I am almost 2 years late on this build. SO, I will try and get as much as I can picture and video wise in this thread. It will probably take a few days. haha So, enjoy the pictures and photos folks dating back to March 7, 2015. Here are some pictures and a video of the day I brought her home. Asking price was $650. Got her for $500 running on 4 out of 6 cylinders. Truck has a 67 305E V6 with an Sm420. Good motor for pulling...terrible trans for a low rpm engine. 1964 GMC 3/4 ton "crustine"- bought another one! - YouTube
Having to look back on my current build to remember everything. haha! Ok, so I have no photos of the motor way back when(ding dong me deleted them) but you can see it in the video. SO we will move on. After I got her home I installed a better set of tires(pictured above) and all my tune up parts came in. So a complete service on the motor and valve adjustment had that thing running like a top! Minus a nasty knocking noise which can be heard in this video: 1964 GMC "Crustine"- She done got a knock!!!! At the end of this build we will find out more about what may have caused that. haha Hint would be some crap falling into the cylinder during the 1st spark plug change. Anyhow, once the crap broke loose the knock quit. 1964 GMC "crustine"- no knock now!
At the time I was into the 500 cfm holley 2 barrel swap, but after more research I went with something else. Which will come up soon. Here is a video of her working in the summer of 2015: 1964 GMC "Crustine"- Putting her to work! And this was an update video: 1964 GMC "crustine"- More work done! - YouTube Not having a tach at the time I did not realize I was reving past 4500 RPM.
Again dingdong me did not keep pictures.....But on 5-21-15 I had a new windshield installed to replace the old cracked one. Maybe these will copy and paste.
And now things start getting good. After researching the 500 cfm holley 2 barrel swap and seeing how much the dumb things cost. BLAAA! I had a 600 cfm eddy 4 barrel laying around And a 4 down to 2 sitting around. My thoughts were...well...it's a lot of fuel going through a tiny 2 barrel opening. But the results beat a clogged 2 barrel better than I ever would have thought. lol Video: 1964 GMC "Crustine"- Cool factor went UP fuel mileage went DOWN.
Crap, the story was supposed to be on Top. lol Oh well! Here are a couple more videos: 1st being of Crustine's new dizzy. 1964 GMC "Crustine"- She done got a new dizzy! And 2nd of a cold start without the choke. People love those on youtube: Its a 1964 GMC "crustine" coldstart!!! without the choke.... Skipping a little ways, I had taken Crustine to her 1st car show where she won Best Under Construction.
Oh I remember this. haha Just a video. This was starter problems. Shortly after this video I have the start rebuilt. Much better. 1964 GMC "Crustine"- Hard cold start. lol And because I was so happy Crustine was running like a top again, and many forum members were giving me a bad time about that tiny air cleaner it was time for a new one.
And here was a Laborless Labor Day cold start video: 1964 GMC Crustine- Laborless coldstart! Also a video of a little 3/4 throttle pulling the gears. I was in a hurry for some Ice Cream. lol 1964 GMC "Crustine"- Little acceleration test.
Well the old mirrors were toast so a $30 set from O'riellys was purchased. And shortly after I installed an Aluminum radiator I had sitting around.
And if you have skipped over all the videos....DON't skip this one!!! This is the new exhaust video! lol! Missing out if you do! 1964 GMC "Crustine"- New Exhaust!!!! And that weekend on a 14 degree day I was doing electrical. haha Got the high and low beam lights working. And I pulled off the vacuum fuel pump because I was tired off that sound. haha
Ya'all will love this. Here is Crustine running on a 14 degree day. 1964 GMC "Crustine"- 14 degree coldstart. I then took the truck to the shop and gave her a good pressure washing. Pictures do no justice. I also welded on some trailer safety chain mounts.
On another forum I scored a set of front bumper guards and to this day still don't have them installed. haha Plus some chrome paint on the valve covers made things perrty right up.
Now time for the Magnum Intake mod. Best part of the build yet. I was lucky to score a 351M intake. These are super easy to open up for a 4 barrel mod. So here goes: Picture of a 305 intake vs a 351 magnum intake.
And here is the finished product. I won't post the video as it came out terrible, but I will be doing an acceleration video one of these days. Can't believe it's already been a few months! haha
