i just got a 65 custom camper and it has a hard time starting and staying running and when you get it running and when you try to put it into gear it dies it has the 283 in it the only things i can think that might be wrong are the adjustments on the carb are off, the spark plugs are bad or a combo of the 2 of them just seeing if yall had any other ideas

    Basics !

Begin with the basics , never trust that anyone before you , did anything correctly .

Remove all spark plugs and gap them to .035" using a wire typ of gauge , if the center electrodes have rounded shoulders they're kaputi , replace them .

If you don't have a dwell meter , set the points to .016" then close up the dizzy and set the timing to 6° ~ 10° BTDC and lock down the dizzy's clamp , re install the spark plugs , replace the fuel hoses and filter and give it a go again .

I assume this rig has a slushbox tranny ? .
