Good morning everybody, I,have a question about identifying motors. How do you know if you have a 2 bolt or a 4 bolt main? What does that mean? I do have mine pulled out and on a stand. Thanks in advance!
Rotate your engine upside down and remove the oil pan. You will see main caps that hold the crank in the block. In between these caps will be your connecting rods. A 2 bolt main block will only have 2 bolts holding each cap to the block, a 4 bolt main block will have 4 bolts holding each cap. A 4 bolt block is stronger, because it allows less deflection in the crank. There are aftermarket 4 bolt main caps that can be fitted by a machine shop to make a 2 bolt bottom end stronger.
