    Hello new friends
my 66 has a straight 6 and 2 speed auto. What seems to be the best swap for dependability and gas mileage? should I stick with domestic iron or try something like a tundra swap? prolly need to do most of my shopping in a pick a part to save a buck or two. any advice would sure help this newbie thanks

I believe a 7004R will bolt up with minor mods, such as a new crossmember, any 67 to 72 truck or suburban will work..you need to shorten driveshaft and get the kickdown linkage from Bowtie overdrives.....maybe Nate knows more on this....

    Fuel Economy

The aerodynamics of these old rigs force serious losses in fuel economy as soon as you exceed 60 MPH no matter what the engine / tranny is .

I'd suggest keeping the L6 and adding any automatic overdrive tranny , plus big TALL tires ~ 30" minimum .

I get 17 + MPG's out of my 230 L6 and TH350 tranny , 29" tires (dammit) and the engine is totally worn out .
