Can anyone tell me what the original finish is for the 235 intake keeper bolts? zinc? black phosphate? something else? Thanks. Tony
Engine bolts. Tony Hardened black steel normally but i have seen them in other qualety to. The 8 qualety cold zinc bolts are to soft and i`ll recommend you not to use them where you have to tighten with a moment . You can buy complete engine sets at Jim Carter or Classic Parts or EBAY or Patricks . Martinius.
Thanks. I plan on replating and reusing my originals. Here's an ebay link that shows what these keeper bolts look like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/40-4...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c175bedb0
Yep these are the onces After you cleaned them look very carfully if there is any color differents between them , black is good , blue is not good and you can through them away. The engine heating/cooling + that they are streched by tightning them gives these bolt wear. You cannnot see it with the eyes and need to rontgen analysing them wich is fare out beond your purpose. These bolts are normally of a very good qaulity and reusable as they are. When tightning these bolts start in the midle of the engine and use a tightning pattern and moment wich you can find refered in your repair manual. You can tighten them even a bit moore after you run the engine warm and the bolts are streched ..... beware not to much ..... just a tyni bit.
